RALEIGH FITNESS PHOTOGRAPHY | YOGA IN THE ROAD
The Story Behind The Series
While doing dance portraits in downtown Raleigh, I wanted to shoot in the middle of the road, but for safety issues, I couldn’t. A few months later I was asked several times to do yoga portraits. After doing several traditional shoots, I wanted to come up with something unique. Going back to the road idea from the dance shoot, I started location scouting. I needed a safe place where you could focus on the pose and not on getting hit by a car. A few weeks later I found the perfect spot and “Yoga in the Road” was born. Trying to find ideas that push Raleigh fitness photography to a different level is a challenge I love.
They Made It Possible
Mary Yarborough, from Charlotte, was the first to come out and risk posing in the middle of the road. She helped me provide the proof-of-concept to prove I wasn’t crazy. It’s always uplifting to have people who believe in me enough to try my crazy ideas. “Yoga in the Road” was intended to be a gritty fitness series. No mats, no control over the weather, just the skin and the road. During the first five sessions, there had been great sunny weather, 30MPH winds, hot summer pavement, and 40-degree rainy night. The shooting location has low traffic; you do have to worry about “road rash” when falling or when losing balance. I am looking forward to adding to the series in 2018 and seeing what the new yogis bring to this Raleigh fitness series. Finally, if you would like to see my athletic portfolio, check it out here.
